This site collects nothing.

The marketing site

These pages are pre-rendered HTML and CSS served from a CDN. They set no cookies, run no analytics, load no fonts, scripts, pixels, or embeds from third parties, and contain no forms. There is nothing here to opt out of, and no consent banner, because there is nothing to consent to.

You can verify this rather than take our word for it: view source on any page, or check the network tab. Every request goes to dregsbane.com. The only outbound links are ordinary hyperlinks you have to click.

Two honest caveats. Our CDN records standard server request logs — timestamp, requested path, IP address, user agent — which is how any web server works; we use them for nothing but debugging and do not join them to anything. And if you email us, we have your email, because that is what email is.

The Trash Trail app

Trash Trail is a different matter: it collects photos, location, and an email address for sign-in, and it has its own policy describing exactly what it takes, why, and what you can remove — including in-app account deletion.

That policy lives inside the app rather than here on purpose. It sits next to the code it describes, so if a data practice changes, the policy change and the code change land in the same review. A policy maintained separately from the software drifts from it.

The public dataset

Litter reports contribute to a public CC-BY-SA-4.0 dataset of observations. Assume a report you file is public: its location, date, tags and photograph are all intended to be published, as the app's policy sets out in full. Your email address is never published.

One point of detail, stated because the difference is checkable and we would rather you checked. The dataset snapshot serving today carries the locations, dates, tags and attribution but not yet the photographs — see the published GeoJSON. That is where the photo pipeline currently stands, not a promise about it. Plan on the app policy, which describes what the system is built to publish.

The attribution string deserves a straight answer, because "anonymous" would be too generous. If you have set a display name, that name is published. If you have not, reports carry a stable identifier derived from your account — something like contributor #01KX0A. It is not your name and not reversible into your email, but it is the same identifier every time, so it links your reports to each other. That makes it pseudonymous rather than anonymous, and under GDPR it is still personal data. Deleting your account detaches it.

Open data is one-way: once a snapshot is published under CC-BY-SA-4.0, that snapshot cannot be recalled. Deleting your account detaches your contributions from you and scrubs your photos, but the reports themselves stay on the map, and no delete button can retract a copy someone already downloaded. We would rather say that plainly than imply deletion reaches further than it does.
